Terms of Service — The House Keeper

Last updated: 8 August 2026

These terms are an agreement between you and Cutten Advisers, trading as The House Keeper, for use of the app at thehousekeeperapp.com and its iOS app.

What the app does — and what it doesn't

The House Keeper helps household employers in South Africa calculate pay, track hours and leave, and keep employment records.

The app's guidance, warnings, and document templates reflect our careful reading of the Basic Conditions of Employment Act and Sectoral Determination 7. They are guidance, not legal advice, and we are not a law firm. For anything contested or complex, speak to a labour attorney or the CCMA. You remain responsible for your obligations as an employer.

Your account and your records

  • Give accurate information and keep your sign-in details safe. You must be 18 or older.
  • The records you create belong to you. We process your employee's information only on your instructions, to provide the app's features, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • You can download your records at any time (Profile → "Download my data") and delete your account at any time.

How long accounts are kept

Free accounts, and the records in them, are kept for 6 months from sign-up. If you cancel a subscription, we keep your records for 12 months from cancellation. In both cases we email you before deletion with instructions for downloading your records; after the deadline, the account and its records are permanently deleted. Subscribing (or re-subscribing) before the deadline is the only way to keep an account beyond these periods.

Subscriptions and payment

Paid plans are billed through Stripe, monthly or annually, at the prices shown in the app. You can cancel at any time and your plan runs to the end of the period you've paid for. We may change prices with 30 days' notice.

Fair use

Don't use the app unlawfully, don't attempt to access other users' data, and don't resell or scrape the service.

Liability

The app is provided "as is." We work hard to keep calculations accurate and the service available, but we don't guarantee either — the app's outputs are aids to your decisions as an employer, not a substitute for them. To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you is limited to the subscription fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

Ending or changing the service

You can stop using the app at any time. We may suspend accounts that break these terms. If we materially change these terms or ever plan to discontinue the service, we'll give reasonable notice so you can download your records.

Governing law

South African law governs these terms.
